June 10-12, 2008, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
The USB Continuum: Hands-On
A 3-day Comprehensive Workshop for Embedded Systems Engineers
Presented by Triangle Advanced Design and Automation, Inc.
Hosted by Freescale Semiconductor
Details: Join us in Atlanta for a three-day hands-on workshop on learning the Universal Serial Bus and applying USB communications in embedded systems. This workshop is targeted for the embedded systems engineer (hardware and/or software) and managers. The class will feature the newly-released Freescale Flexis JM-series 8- and 32-bit pin-compatible USB microcontrollers and includes a DEMOJM development system with both processors.
Level: Intermediate/Advanced
Prerequisites: Knowledge of embedded systems concepts and development, including rudimentary C language coding.
Participants may bring their own laptops but will be using class computers for the workshop. There will be a considerable amount of development software installed on the computers (all are provided on CD/DVD for the student to take with them).
Topics to be covered:
USB Specification:
Devices, Hosts, and On-the-go
Version 1.1 / 2.0 differences
Speeds Connectors
USB Communications:
- Enumeration
- Frames
- Packets
- Transactions
Principles of USB Device Design
Introduction to the
CodeWarrior? development environment
Hands-on examples:
- Human Interface Device
- Communications Device Class
- Demo of Mass Storage devices
Testing and troubleshooting: use of software and hardware protocol analyzers
Talking to Your Application - Use of Visual C++ and Visual Basic to write drivers, APIs and a GUI application to interface to a USB device (includes brief VB tutorial)
Hands-on hosting examples - communicating with USB mouse, keyboard, and 'thumb drive'
Principles of USB Host Design
USB On-the-go: putting it all together
Making it Legal: Registering and Testing considerations
... and more!
Cost: $1295 (see below for an additional discount). Registration includes three days of instruction; development hardware used in the class; CD with presentation, reference material, development software, and in-class use of class computers. This class is normally $1795 so we are getting a special price.
As this is a hands-on class, registration is limited to 12 participants to assure the best learning environment. As this class fills quickly, we recommend that you register as soon as possible.
Registration closes Friday, June 6, or when the class is full.
IEEE members can get a $300 discount (net cost $995) by entering their membership # in the "discount code" blank when registering.
